Chiltern Farmhouse
Cuddesdon, Oxfordshire
PROJECT TYPE: Whole-House Cabinetry
DESIGNER: Napier Clarke Architects and Last Interior Design
OVERVIEW: The cabinetry at Chiltern Farmhouse was designed and manufactured for streamlined functionality and a fresh, bold aesthetic. The property is made up of two distinct sections, the original listed residence and a later contemporary addition, raised above the main house by half a storey and joined by a new double-height hallway. The cabinetry is a simple, elegant reflection of these mixed architectural styles.

BOOT ROOM
A slatted, honed oak room divide and half-glazed door set the scene for an integrated wall of storage. Boot and shoe compartments are baseless for easy sweeping, and a window bench provides seating to tie laces and buckles. Upper cupboards are slab-fronted, with the same uniform routed detailing seen in cabinetry and joinery throughout the house. Hand-turned notched coat pegs are planted into the oak-backed cupboards.

KITCHEN
Flat-fronted cabinetry is spray-finished in a smooth terracotta shade, which enhances the simplicity and clean lines of the under-counter cupboards. Contrasting full-height cabinets in natural oak are flat-fronted, with a uniformly hand-routed design feature to the cupboards above and finished in bespoke light oil, formulated specifically for the project.

STUDY
In the study, the same light-oiled natural oak forms a dresser-style shelving unit. Bookshelves with adjustable shelving sit above slab-fronted drawers with J-groove finger pulls and cupboards with matt black metal edge pulls. The drawer and door fronts are carefully bookmatched – allowing the woodgrain to make a subtle but striking statement.

LIBRARY
Simple flat-fronted cabinetry is spray-finished in De Nimes by Farrow & Ball and finished with pull knobs by Dowsing & Reynolds.

BEDROOMS
Made-to-measure wardrobes are hand-painted in Slaked Lime by Little Greene. Bespoke oak internals offer a combination of open shelving, internal drawers and hanging rails.
