Middleton Lodge
Oxfordshire
PROJECT TYPE: Whole-House Cabinetry
INTERIOR DESIGNER: Client design, in collaboration with Barr Joinery
OVERVIEW: Val Foster, owner of Foster & Gane, antique and 20th century furniture specialists, worked hand in hand with the Barr Joinery team to create an elegant collection of bespoke cabinetry, for her Grade II-listed lodge house.

WINE ROOM
Shaker cabinetry sits alongside tongue and groove panelling, wrapping the temperature-controlled wine storage fridge and bar shelving, as well as floor-to-ceiling storage cupboards. A tall open shoe rack with woven storage baskets flanks three full-height doors. One conceals a full-height hanging rail, another, adjustable larder shelving, and the third, a hidden doorway.

KITCHEN
Traditional slimline Shaker cabinetry sits against tongue and groove panelling. Detailing includes solid oak drawer boxes with individually specified drawer inserts made to house particular items and open breadboard storage. A narrow bullnosed shelf, supported by handmade solid wood brackets, offers cup hooks and an antique brass utensils rail.

YOGA ROOM
The 'middle room’ is colour-drenched in Edward Bulmer’s light, bright Lute paint and designed to be a tranquil refuge for exercise and meditation. Inset cupboards with adjustable shelving and storage drawers sit amid simple Shaker wall panelling.

LIBRARY
Wall-to-wall library cabinets sit amongst individual joinery pieces, all detailed with vertical fluting and quadrant beading to the doors. A worktop, with a bullnose edge profile, projects to form a dresser top. Antique bronze handles by Corston adorn the cabinetry, with antique bronze picture lights from Vaughan Designs.
