Monroe House
Surrey
PROJECT TYPE: Whole-house cabinetry
INTERIOR DESIGNER: Jess O’Grady
OVERVIEW: The cabinetry throughout Monroe House seamlessly blends classic contemporary aesthetics with mid-century influences, evident in the use of veneer finishes and the detailing in the main dressing and dining rooms. Each element has been carefully tailored to enhance the home's character while providing functional solutions.
The classic contemporary approach features clean lines and sophisticated finishes that harmonise with the home’s architectural framework. The mid-century influence introduces warmth and depth, especially through the rich wood veneers and streamlined forms that add a sense of understated luxury. Jess O’Grady’s meticulous attention to detail ensures the cabinetry not only complements the overall design scheme but becomes an integral part of the home’s identity.

DINING ROOM:
The cabinetry in the dining room features Mundy Veneer both externally and internally, creating a consistent and cohesive finish. The woodwork offers a subtle sheen that enhances the natural beauty of the veneer while maintaining a refined and understated look. This design harmonises with the room's elegant proportions and the herringbone flooring, providing both function and aesthetic appeal.

KITCHEN:
The kitchen features a Mundy Veneer finish, providing a refined and understated texture. The island is topped with a sleek stainless-steel worktop, creating a modern focal point. Two pocket-door pantries are strategically positioned on either side of the entrance to the main sitting room, offering discreet and functional storage solutions.

STUDY 1:
External and internal finishes feature straight grain oak, stained with Mylands Walnut to achieve a warm, rich tone. The design includes a wall-mounted bookcase with lower cupboards for concealed storage, creating a balance of functionality and aesthetic appeal. The cabinetry is complemented by ironmongery from Joseph Giles, using the 'Arnold' solid brass cabinet pull with a dark bronze waxed finish.

Caesarstone worktops are used over the kitchen preparation areas for a cohesive and luxurious look. High-end appliances include a Quooker tap, a Liebherr fridge, and Miele appliances, ensuring both style and state-of-the-art functionality.

UTILITY ROOM:
The utility room’s design prioritises both practicality and aesthetics. The base cabinets and full-height units are painted in Little Greene’s 'Arras'. A walnut worktop adds warmth to the space, while Joseph Giles' 'Cube' solid brass edge pulls in a dark bronzed waxed finish provide a contemporary touch.

MUSIC ROOM:
The Music Room joinery is finished in Paint & Paper Library 'Blue Blood', creating a bold and sophisticated look. Internally, it features American walnut veneer for a warm and luxurious feel. The ironmongery, by Joseph Giles, includes the 'Irvine' solid brass cabinet pull in 'Mid Antique Brass Waxed', complementing the overall design.

STUDY 2:
This space features a wall of bespoke joinery, showcasing straight grain oak for both the external and internal finishes, stained in Mylands Walnut for a deep, rich tone. The cabinetry is accentuated with Joseph Giles' 'Arnold' solid brass cabinet pulls, finished in 'Dark Bronze Waxed', adding a touch of understated elegance.

GUEST BEDROOM:
The guest bedroom features full-height cupboards with slim-mitred chamfer bead. The interiors are crafted from walnut, while the exteriors are painted in Little Greene's 'Rolling Fog Mid'. The ironmongery comprises 'The Beehive' pulls by Beata Heuman.

DRESSING ROOM:
The dressing room features full-height cabinetry, designed with a walnut interior and an elegant wood veneer exterior. The clean and understated design creates a functional yet luxurious storage space.

SITTING ROOM:
The sitting room is defined by bookshelves and lower cupboards flanking the chimney breast. Both the external and internal finishes use Mundy Veneer, creating a warm, cohesive look. The cabinetry is fitted with Armac Martin 'Arbar' cabinet knobs, adding a refined touch.

BATHROOM 1:
The bathroom features a bespoke reeded vanity unit painted in Farrow & Ball's 'Oval Room Blue', lending a serene and sophisticated aesthetic to the space. The unit is topped with a luxurious marble surface, providing a timeless contrast to the painted finish. Brass 'Patterdale' cabinet knobs from Willow & Stone add an elegant, refined detail to complete the design.

GUEST BATHROOM:

The under-mounted sink is seamlessly integrated into the vanity's design. The countertop, made from luxurious 'Calacatta Viola' marble, adds a striking visual element with its bold veining and rich hues.
