Threshers Barn
Oxfordshire
PROJECT TYPE: Whole-house cabinetry
INTERIOR DESIGNER: Taylor & Turner
OVERVIEW: The stunning and cohesive cabinetry scheme at Threshers Barn was designed by Taylor & Turner, in close collaboration with a wonderful client, as part of an Oxfordshire farmhouse and outbuilding renovation. The project 'raison d'être' was to embody the charm and feel of the old farmhouse, whilst embracing the modern appeal of a contemporary barn conversion and the nuances of its lofty proportions. The result is a warm, inviting, and unpretentious space, with a timeless style that meets the practical needs of modern living.
Key elements include a classic English made-to-measure kitchen, featuring standalone traditional French polished dresser-style cabinets, an elegant and strikingly original home bar and a fully fitted larder/laundry room, as well as individual bespoke pieces, such as bespoke vanity units.

BAR
Shaker-style cabinetry with a classic square edge profile is hand-painted in Edward Bulmer's Indigo. Full-height cupboards are shelved and racked for glass and bottle storage. Slim glazed optics shelves, with polished brass fiddle rails and antique mirror back panels, are set forward for alignment. A bare central back panel with integrated lighting allows for feature artwork. Detailing includes integrated lighting, a walnut and brass library ladder, sustainably sourced walnut veneer internals, and a reeded walnut island front with an antique brass footrail.

KITCHEN
Traditional English in-frame cabinetry, with its distinctive quarter-round panel detailing, is hand-painted in Edward Bulmer's Ethereal Blue. Wall cabinets are glass-fronted and set back to protect sightlines. Island end panels are set between stop-chamfered newel posts, with a breakfast bar section flanked by inset drawer and storage sets, against a tongue and groove back panel. Natural oak veneer internals, solid oak dovetail drawer boxes and bespoke inserts add warmth and contrast.
“Inspiration threads are drawn from the Arts and Crafts Movement through to traditional English design, combining architectural joinery with antique-inspired elements to achieve a warm, classical and truly functional living space.”

BESPOKE FURNITURE
Twin bespoke dressers, manufactured from solid oak in a specialist-applied French polish finish are interspersed by triple portrait windows. Cornice detailing and glass fronts to the upper units, sectioned by slim glazing bars and a bespoke wine unit, make these standalone pieces truly unique.

SCULLERY/LAUNDRY ROOM
A bank of full-height double-door cupboards, again with hand-painted traditional English fronts with quarter-round detail, features a large central horizontal rail, cornice detailing and traditionally set ventilation holes. Matched under-counter cupboards are set into tongue and groove panelling, cut to meet the rest of the cabinetry.

MASTER BEDROOM VANITY
A solid oak reeded in-frame vanity unit, treated in a light clear lacquer for a natural finish. A natural marble top, with a sculpted edge and matched upstand, is cut to frame twin under-mounted oval basins.

“A contemporary barn kitchen, unfussy and inviting, making the most of the lofty ceilings. A collaborative effort with a fearless client, expertly bought to fruition by Barr Joinery.”
